FASIG-TIPTON WINTER MIXED SET TO START Paramount Sales has 20 hips scheduled to sell at Fasig-Tipton on Sunday, February 8th. The consignment is highlighted by a very good daughter of the wildly popular first crop sire FOREST CAMP (Hip #4). The bay yearling filly is out of the young winning mare PLEASANT SANDY who is already a winner producer. Other yearlings making up the Paramount consignment are by Kentucky Derby winner MONARCHOS, as well as popular sale sire GOLDEN MISSILE. In addition, the consignment has 17 broodmare and broodmare prospects slated to sell. Broodmare sires include such top stallions as SUMMER SQUALL, SAINT BALLADO, CARSON CITY, TWINING, COZZENE, VALID APPEAL and STORM BIRD. If you find yourself braving the winter weather, come by and visit our consignment in barn 3A-C. |

KEENELAND JANUARY RESULTS The January Sale proved cold as usual. But within the chilly confines of the sale barns, a few horses proved they were worth cold hard cash and warmed the hearts of some sellers and buyers. Paramount's consignment was topped by a sharp TALE OF THE CAT filly out of the mare PASSING MY WAY. The filly's final bid was hammered down at $270,000 for her buyer Cormac McCormac, and was the top selling yearling for her hot sire. Thank you to all sellers and consignors that participated in the 2003 sales. We look forward to further success in 2004 and we invite everyone back. |

GRADUATE SPANISH EMPIRE DEFEATS TENPINS
Steve Asmussen trainee SPANISH EMPIRE proved ready for his latest starts with a upset win over multiple Graded Stake winner TENPINS in the Louisiana Handicap, and then more recently he finished a close second in the Grade 3 Whirlaway Handicap at the Fair Grounds.
The son of PLEASANT COLONY and half brother to FOREST CAMP stalked close to the pace early in the mile and a sixteenth Louisiana Handicap, split horses and found the rail to rally in the stretch to win by a length. The time of the race was 1:43 2/5. To read more about the race click here for the Fair Grounds recap.
In the lead in the Whirlaway, SPANISH EMPIRE just gave way in the final strides to finish second by less than a length. SPANISH EMPIRE was Paramount Sales' first sale topper, topping Keeneland's inaugural 2001 October Sale with a price tag of $400,000. Congratulations to trainer Steven Asmussen and owners Jubilee Stable, Twin Creeks Farm and Martin Cherry.
