KEENELAND SEPTEMBER DEADLINE LOOMING

Spring not only heralds racing at Keeneland, but is also the time to start finalizing sale plans for yearlings heading to Keeneland's September venue.  This year's deadline to both enter and withdraw is May 3.

If you are questioning which yearlings to enter for Keeneland and which may suit other sales, Pat Costello can be of some assistance.  Pat will be visiting farms both in and outside of Kentucky to inspect yearlings right up until the entry deadline. For states Pat is scheduled to visit or his local schedule, please contact the Paramount office at (859) 296-6455.

GRADUATES IN THE SPOTLIGHT

2002 Paramount Sale graduate ANTONIUS PIUS has hit the spotlight once again.  In a recent press conference, Aidan O'Brien outlined the top runners in his stable.  ANTONIUS PIUS is not only highly regarded at Ballydoyle, now being nominated to the Guineas, but he is also a popular commodity among the racing public, being among early favorites for the race.  Best of luck in 2004 to owner Michael Tabor, trainer Aidan O'Brien, and breeder Dr. Tony Ryan.

Two other graduates have grabbed the spotlight recently as well.  CALL ME SHANE and A LULU OFA MENIFEE have both lit up the "rag sheets" with impressive wins.  A LULU OFA MENIFEE (Menifee - Lu Lu's Lullaby) had broken her maiden at the Fairgrounds before winning her latest Fairgrounds start by 8 1/2 lengths.  Recently sold privately, she is now stabled in the barn of Barclay Tagg.  Sold as a yearling by Paramount Sales, A LULU OFA MENIFEE was bred by Donna Moore.  Congratulations to her previous owners John McDonough and Donna Moore and previous trainer, Ronny Werner.  We'd like to wish the best of luck to her new owners.

CALL ME SHANE is a very sharp son of TALE OF THE CAT who broke his maiden impressively at Gulfstream Park.  Never far from the lead, the first time starter stalked for a portion of the race before making his move in the stretch.  CALL ME SHANE covered six and a half furlongs in 1:16.39 beating eleven opponents.  Congratulations to owner John McNulty, trainer Niall O'Callaghan and breeder CDC Partnership.

SPRING RACING AT KEENELAND

April showers bring May flowers, but April racing at Keeneland can bring May roses on the first Saturday in May.   Many Derby horses prep at Keeneland each year and this year is no exception.  Keeneland's website reports Nick Zito will prep his stable of contenders at Keeneland this year.  EUROSILVER, BIRDSTONE, and THE CLIFF'S EDGE all arrived in at the backside in March to train for the big race.  Keeneland's website also reports that Bob Baffert will bring Derby hopeful PREACHINATTHEBAR to Lexington to start in the Toyota Bluegrass.

Racing at Keeneland starts on April 2nd this year and ends Friday April 23rd.  A list of Keeneland's Grade 1 races appears in the racing chart below.
