VOLUME 17  - MARCH/APRIL 2005

Paramount graduates made 2004 exciting with outstanding performances in races such as the Breeders' Cup Turf-G1, the French Derby-G1, the Schuylerville-G2 and the Tremont-G3 to name only a few.  Grads are starting off 2005 with a bang setting two squarely on the Derby Trail with wins in the Lane's End-G2 Sam F. Davis S.

FLOWER ALLEY (Distorted Humor) and ANDROMEDA'S HERO (Fusaichi Pegasus) jumped into the Derby mix in the month of March.  ANDROMEDA'S HERO was the good winner of the Sam F. Davis S. at Tampa, defeating a full field of eleven foes.  FLOWER ALLEY was somewhat a surprise as the winner of the G2 Lane's End S. at Turfway Park on March 26.  The Todd Pletcher trainee now has two wins in three starts winning the Lane's End off a maiden effort at Gulfstream Park. 

FLOWER ALLEY will be pointed for one of three races as his final Derby prep.  He could show up in either the Toyota Bluegrass S.-G1 at Keeneland, the Arkansas Derby-G2 at Oaklawn or the Coolmore Lexington-G2 also at Keeneland.  If you'd like to read more about the Lane's End S. click here.

KEENELAND MEET A TRUE SIGN OF SPRING

April in Kentucky is the picture of the spring season.  Flowering dogwoods trim an emerald green landscape lined with plank fences and inhabited by young foals who romp in the warming spring air.  Those who call the Bluegrass home know the ambience of the season is also the call to post for the Keeneland spring race meet.

The meet opens on Friday, April 8th and ends on April 28th before dates are handed to Churchill Downs in preparation for the Derby.  The meet is highlighted by the Toyota Bluegrass-G1, The Ashland-G1 and the Coolmore Lexington.  Keeneland's full stake schedule for the 2005 spring meet is available by visiting the Keeneland website (click here).

**While the deadlines for the Fasig-Tipton July Yearling and Saratoga Select Yearling Sales have past, there remains a window of opportunity to nominate yearlings for these venues.  You must act quickly, however Pat Costello would be happy to speak with you about any nominations.  Please contact the Paramount office at (859) 296-6455.

RACING

Each month, we provide a list of the upcoming Grade 1 races.  Below are the Grade 1 races scheduled with the run up to the Kentucky Derby.  April 9th will be a huge day of racing with more Grade 1 races on that day than on Derby Day.  We'd like to wish everyone the best of racing luck.
