KEENELAND SEPTEMBER STRONG - NOVEMBER ON TAP

The strength of the September market at Keeneland helped put Paramount Sales on the list of the top ten consignors once again. The 2003 consignment was led by very strong individuals highlighted by Hip 242, a filly by EL PRADO out of TEDARSHANA (GB) who was purchased by Chiefswood Stables for $650,000.

In addition, hip 417 - a filly by SAINT BALLADO out of LILAC GARDEN - was purchased by Darley for an attractive $575,000 figure and hip 96 - a very good AWESOME AGAIN colt out of the mare FIGHTING JET - was purchased for $500,000 by Fleetwood Management.

Paramount Sales would like to thank not only everyone that purchased horses this September, but also those people who were strong under bidders.  Congratulations to all those sellers who consigned with Paramount Sales and best of luck to everyone with their purchases.

THE WIN PARADE

Paramount graduates continue to prove they are racehorses as yet three more fillies break their maidens this month.  Paramount has had an uncanny 12 of 14 winners win in their first starts!!

In against New York breds for her debut on October 8th, FRENCH DISH became the twelve Paramount Graduate to break her maiden first time out.  The two-year-old daughter of TOMORROWS CAT broke a beat slowly, but answered the call of J. Velazquez very well, moving within a half length of the lead in the stretch, then edging up to win by a length and a quarter.  Paramount congratulates her owners and breeders Donald & Mary Zuckerman as well as her trainer Mark Hennig.

Making her first start in a $32K claiming race October 2nd, PRETTY QUIET RUN burst into the winner circle breaking her maiden well from off the pace.  The two-year-old daughter of REAL QUIET stalked the field from nearly last, then unable to find room in the upper stretch, found running room late to win by a half length.  Congratulations to owners Equilease Racing Stable, trainer John Charalambous and breeder David Plummer.

The regally bred PENNY'S FORTUNE became Paramount winner number 11 and one of the long line of winners to do it at first asking.  The daughter of STORM CAT out of LOVLIER LINDA stalked the pace nicely before making a good move to the inside of the field.  She was challenged in the stretch, but prevailed to break her maiden by a length and a half.  Congratulations to owners Howard and Mary Lester, trainer Burk Kessinger and breeder Gaines-Gentry Thoroughbreds and Pacelco S.A.  We hope to see this half sister to OLD TRIESTE in the winners circle again very soon.

In addition to this month's new winners HAJJI'S HONOR came back this month to win the San Mateo at Bay Meadows.  In the style of CAME HOME and other recent tales of successful sale buy backs, the HONOR AND GLORY colt's owners Fran and Stan Hodge's have proven they were far wiser than anyone looking at the bay colt on the sale grounds at the 2002 Fasig-Tipton July Sale.  Even Pat Costello himself has tipped his hat to their wise decision.  The colt was hammered down in July 2002 with a final bid of $70,000, however the Hodge's saw a brighter future for the colt in taking him home.  HAJJI'S HONOR has now broken into the ranks of stake company and we congratulate his owners the Hodges and their trainer Charles Jenda.
